This quiz helps you tell whether you miss your ex as a person or mostly miss the routine, the version of yourself you were with them, or simply company. Rate twelve statements and it shows which pull is strongest, with two next steps for each. It takes about two minutes and is scored privately on your device.
Why it helps to know what you are missing
“I miss them” usually bundles several different losses together. The person is one. But there is also the shape of your week, the future you had planned, the version of yourself you liked being, and the simple comfort of not being alone at night. Each of these heals in a different way, so naming the strongest one tells you where to put your effort first.
How the quiz is scored
Each of the four areas has three statements, rated from “not at all” (0) to “very much” (4). Your score for each area is shown as a percentage of the maximum. The highest becomes your main result. If a second area is within a few points, you will see that too, because most people miss more than one thing.
If every area scores low, the quiz says so. That can be a sign that the feelings are fading.
Do I miss my ex, or am I just lonely?
It can be both, and it often is. A useful test: if a kind, attractive person who liked you were sitting with you tonight, would the ache mostly go away? If yes, loneliness is doing a lot of the work. If no, and it is this specific person you want, you are grieving them. Neither answer is wrong. They just call for different next steps.
Memory also plays a part. Over time it tends to keep the highlights and drop the hard parts, so missing someone can grow even as you heal. A written list of why it ended helps keep the picture honest. See how to stop thinking about your ex.

Common questions
How do I know if I miss my ex or the relationship?
Notice when the missing hits. If it peaks at the times you used to spend together, or when you want to share news, you may miss the routine and the role more than the person. If you miss specific things about them that no one else could replace, you are grieving them.
Is it normal to miss my ex even though they treated me badly?
Yes. Relationships that swing between warmth and hurt can create a strong bond, and memory tends to hold on to the good moments. Missing them does not mean you should go back. If the relationship was abusive, see our safety page.
Will I stop missing my ex?
For most people the missing gets less frequent and less sharp, though it can return in waves around anniversaries or news of them. Distance, new routines and time with other people all help it fade.
Is this quiz a psychological test?
No. It is a reflection aid to help you name what you are feeling. It is not validated as a measurement tool and is not a diagnosis.
